ELEK Cable HV V9.5 introduces Earth Continuity Conductor (ECC) modelling and optimisation for single-point bonded and cross-bonded high-voltage cable systems.
Engineers can model, position, and transpose an ECC and calculate its effect on earth-fault current distribution, EPR, and metallic-sheath standing voltages.
ELEK Cable HV V9.5 also delivers improved transient calculations, significantly faster FEM calculations, voltage drop and standards compliance information in every report.
Optimised Earth Continuity Conductor Design
The headline feature in V9.5 is ECC modelling and optimisation.
Engineers can now model an ECC directly within the cable installation, position and transpose it, and assess its effect on induced currents, voltages and metallic sheath standing voltages.
The Optimised Position function automatically determines an ECC location that minimises standing voltages in the metallic sheath during earth-fault conditions. Engineers can then adjust the position to suit practical installation requirements and immediately recalculate the results.
ECC modelling is available for in-air, buried, backfill, submarine and FEM installations.
Key Capabilities
ECC Modelling and Fault Calculations
Model ECCs for single-point bonded and cross-bonded systems and calculate performance under normal and fault conditions, including ECC current, earth current split, EPR, end-to-end voltage, sheath standing voltages, and ECC short-circuit rating.
Improved Transient Calculations
Transient calculations have been improved based on guidance from CIGRE Working Group B1.72, including improved emergency and cyclic ratings, pre-emergency conductor temperature and temperature-versus-time results.
Faster FEM Calculations
FEM studies involving multiple circuits and/or soil drying can achieve at least a 3× improvement in calculation speed. A new In-Service option also allows circuits to be taken out of service while accounting for heating from surrounding circuits.
Voltage Drop and Standards Compliance
Voltage drop is now included in steady-state calculations. V9.5 also introduces standards compliance information in calculation reports, providing greater visibility of the standards, methods and validation documentation behind the results.
