Risers & J-tubes

Cables installed in risers with open ends, one end open or closed at both ends. Current ratings for cables in tubes for offshore wind farms.

Finite Element Method

Extends beyond the limitations of the IEC Standards. For example, models multiple zones of soil with different thermal resistivity.

Finite Element Method Module

FEM is the most accurate method for cable current rating calculations.

Beyond IEC 60287 Limitations

Installation methods which can be modelled in FEM includes: any combination of direct buried, multiple backfills, filled troughs and multiple cable circuits.

Accurate Buried Ratings

The IEC standards assume an isothermal (ideal) ground surface whereas FEM considers convection leading to more accurate ratings.

Multiple Backfills

Model areas with different thermal resistivity including multiple separated backfills or zones of soil with different thermal resistivity.

Automatic Meshing

The FEM algorithm automatically meshes the environment as well as all cable components for high accuracy node temperature calculations.
